Our nation’s 250th anniversary of independence offers an opportunity to celebrate the enduring spirit that has shaped America for generations: resilience, innovation, service, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves. While we may differ in background, perspective, and experience, Independence Day reminds us that we are united by a shared purpose and the ideals that continue to move our nation forward.
As we look to the future of these United States, our work at the Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2) continues to be guided by five core pillars that reflect our commitment to our warfighters, our partners, and the communities we serve.
Maximizing Engagement
America’s greatest strength has always been its people. CMI2 brings together Soldiers, researchers, industry, academia, government, and nonprofit partners to solve national security challenges through collaboration and shared purpose.
Empowering Frontline Soldiers
The best solutions begin with those closest to the mission. We work directly with Soldiers to understand operational challenges and help turn their ideas into capabilities that improve readiness, mission effectiveness, and tactical advantage.

Innovation must be tested before it can be trusted. Through hands-on experimentation and realistic operational environments, CMI2 helps evaluate and refine emerging technologies alongside the Soldiers who will ultimately use them.

Great ideas deserve the opportunity to make an impact. CMI2 helps bridge the gap between innovation and implementation by connecting promising technologies with the partners and pathways needed to support national security.
Enabling Economic Growth
Strong communities help build a stronger nation. Beyond supporting our nation’s military, CMI2 invests in the communities we serve through STEM education, workforce development, internships, and programs like ILLUME that prepare the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
